Linux live image does not boot on new computer

Thanks, Simon and Daniel! Now I remember that during my many installs,
it worked once out of the box using an EFI-enabled USB live image, but
then it didn't any more and I had to use the program "boot repair" and a
procedure along the lines of what you and Daniel mentioned to get it up
and running. If I find the instructions again, I'll post them here.

Cheers
Stan

Not sure if I remember correctly but I may have booted a live system *in EFI* and chrooted into the installed system to uninstall grub-pc and install grub-efi. I think if you don't do it this way, then efivars are not available and cannot be set automatically. However I played around with various installations at that time and don't remember exactly what I did.
